📈 Function Diagram – Phase Loss & Sequence Protection

FCP18-06 Phase Loss and Phase Sequence Protection

• The relay continuously monitors the three-phase supply connected to L1-L2-L3 (and N for 4-wire models).
• When all three phases are present and in correct sequence, the output relay R closes after the fixed 5-second delay. The P LED stays ON.
• If a phase loss is detected, the output relay R opens immediately (within 200ms). The P LED turns OFF.
• If a phase sequence error is detected, the output relay R opens immediately. The P LED flashes.
• When the fault clears, the relay automatically re-closes after the 5-second re-energization delay.

📈 Function Diagram – Overvoltage & Undervoltage Protection (±15%)

FCP18-06 Overvoltage and Undervoltage Protection

• The relay monitors voltage with fixed thresholds: +15% overvoltage and -15% undervoltage relative to the nominal input voltage.
• If voltage goes above +15% of nominal, the output relay R opens after the fixed 5-second delay. Recovery below the threshold automatically re-closes R.
• If voltage drops below -15% of nominal, the output relay R opens after the fixed 5-second delay. Recovery above the threshold automatically re-closes R.
• No configuration required — these thresholds provide balanced protection for standard industrial equipment.

📈 Function Diagram – Asymmetry (Phase Imbalance) Protection (8%)

FCP18-06 Asymmetry Protection Function Diagram

• The relay calculates voltage asymmetry between phases: Asy = (Umax - Umin) / Uavr.
• When asymmetry exceeds the fixed 8% threshold, the output relay R opens after the fixed 5-second delay.
• If asymmetry drops back below 8%, the output relay automatically re-closes.
• The 8% threshold is ideal for general-purpose motor protection, preventing overheating while avoiding unnecessary trips from minor grid imbalances.

🔧 Wiring & Terminal Layout

Terminal Identification

L1 — Phase L1 L2 — Phase L2 L3 — Phase L3 N — Neutral (B/D only) 11 — COM 12 — NC 14 — NO
⚠️ Safety Note: Keep the power supply disconnected during the entire installation process. Carefully check the wiring diagram and follow it correctly. Adhere to the specified voltage and current limits for each connection terminal.

3-phase 3-wire models (A/C): Connect L1, L2, L3 directly. No neutral connection required.
3-phase 4-wire models (B/D): Connect L1, L2, L3, and N. The wiring diagram shown is for 4-wire models. For 3-wire models, simply omit the N terminal.

🕹️ How It Works — Plug & Protect

  1. Apply Three-Phase Supply: Connect L1, L2, L3 (and N for B/D models) to the monitored supply. The green Un LED illuminates.
  2. Automatic Phase & Voltage Check: The relay verifies phase sequence and checks that voltage is within ±15% of nominal. After a 5-second delay, if all conditions are normal, the output relay R closes.
  3. Continuous Protection: The relay monitors for phase loss, sequence error, over/under voltage (±15%), and asymmetry (8%). Any fault causes the output to open after the 5-second delay (except phase loss/sequence, which trip immediately).
  4. Automatic Recovery: When the fault clears, the relay automatically re-closes after the fixed 5-second stabilization delay. No user intervention required.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

🔹 Do I need to configure any settings on the FCP18-06?
No. All protection parameters are factory-preset and fixed: Overvoltage +15%, Undervoltage -15%, Asymmetry 8%, Time Delay 5s. Simply wire the relay and it begins protecting your equipment immediately. This makes it ideal for OEMs and standardized installations.
🔹 Can I use the FCP18-06 if my voltage tolerance requirements are different?
If you need adjustable voltage thresholds, consider the FCP18-02 (over/under voltage 2%–20% adjustable) or FCP18-04 (adjustable voltage plus adjustable asymmetry). The FCP18-06 is designed for applications where ±15% is the accepted standard.
🔹 Does the 5-second delay apply to all fault types?
Phase loss and phase sequence errors cause immediate tripping (<200ms for phase loss, <500ms for sequence). The 5-second delay applies to overvoltage, undervoltage, and asymmetry faults, as well as to the initial start-up and recovery after faults clear.
🔹 How is the 8% asymmetry calculated?
Asymmetry is calculated as (Umax - Umin) / Uavr × 100%, where Uavr is the average of the three phase voltages. If the result exceeds 8%, the relay trips after the 5-second delay.
🔹 What is the mechanical life of the output contacts?
The relay has an outstanding mechanical life of 1×10⁷ operations. Electrical life is 1×10⁵ operations at rated 16A/250V AC load.
🔹 Can I set the input voltage or is it automatic?
The input voltage is determined by the sub-model you order (A, B, C, or D). The relay automatically detects the voltage level within its range and applies the fixed ±15% thresholds relative to the measured nominal voltage. No manual voltage setting is required.
