Common questions about timing relays
On-delay (FCT18-A / FCT18-A1 / FCT18-A2): Timing begins the moment power is applied. The output contacts activate only after the preset delay period expires. Common applications: delayed motor start, sequencing, sequential control panels.
Off-delay (FCT18-Bta): Output contacts activate immediately when power is applied, and the timing begins when power is removed. The output stays active for the preset duration. Common applications: fan run-down, conveyor belt stop delay, cooling system shutoff.
Fiicco also offers multifunction models (FCT18-M, FCT18-N, FCT18-X) that combine both functions and more — selectable via DIP switches in the field.
Fiicco timer relays offer three voltage options:
- AC 230V — standard mains voltage (model suffix: A)
- DC 24V — low-voltage control circuits (model suffix: D)
- AC/DC 12-240V — universal wide voltage (model suffix: W) — operates on both AC and DC, 12V to 240V
All models have a voltage tolerance of -15% to +10%. The universal (W) models are the most popular for export since they work globally without modification.
1 CO contact (1 changeover): One output terminal that switches between normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) positions. Cost-effective for simple control circuits.
2 CO contacts (2 changeovers): Two independent output terminals, each a changeover contact. Allows control of two separate circuits simultaneously or provides redundancy.
Both types share the same contact rating: 16A at 250V AC for resistive loads, suitable for most industrial control and lighting applications. Models with 2 CO contacts are slightly wider but fit the same 18mm DIN-rail format.
The FCT18-M offers 10 selectable functions: On-Delay (A), Interval (B), Flashing starting off (C), Flashing starting on (D), Off-Delay (E), Interval (F), Pulse Generator (G), ON & OFF Delay (H), Bistable (I), and Pulse Delay (J). The rotary selector switch on the front panel lets you choose the function in seconds.
The FCT18-N adds summation control — it accumulates timing across multiple trigger pulses, useful for batch counting and cycle monitoring.
The FCT18-X expands to 16 function combinations including Alternating On/Off Delay (L) and additional modes for complex automation sequences.
All multifunction models feature the same 0.1s–100days timing range, AC/DC 12-240V wide voltage, and 18mm DIN-rail mounting.
The FCT18-ST is purpose-built for three-phase motor star-delta starting. In star connection, motor voltage is reduced to 1/√3 (approx. 58%), cutting starting current significantly. After the preset delay, the relay switches to delta connection for full-voltage running.
The FCT18-ST features two independent timing outputs: one for the star (Y) contactor and one for the delta (△) contactor, ensuring correct sequencing and preventing interphase short-circuits.
Typical timing range: 0.1s–100days adjustable. Common presets: 5–30 seconds. Suitable for motor sizes from 5HP to 100HP in industrial machinery, compressors, and pump systems.
